2010-2011 ICH Youth Hockey Registration

Hello ICH Families,

I am excited to inform you that we are now using online registration for ICH youth hockey! We are using Active.com’s event registration service, so it’s safe and secure with both credit card and echeck options for payment.

Online registration will be available August 16- September 2, 2010 for the 2010-2011 hockey season. Please visit our registration & fees page for information regarding fees and to REGISTER NOW »

You will still need to also register each player with USA hockey for the current year, so be sure to do that before you start the ICH online registration process.

Only a $50 deposit will be due at registration. The remaining balance will then be invoiced and paid online in 3 installments.

Also please plan to attend a parent informational meeting either August 30 or September 2, 2010 from 7-8pm at Coral Ridge Ice Arena. Coaches and board members will be available to assist you with equipment or other hockey questions before and after the meeting.

Website Status

We’ve recently had a bit of bad luck strike the ICH website. First we experienced a weather related failure then immediately followed that with an issue with the back-up files. So we are working hard to get the site back in tip top shape, but since we are a volunteer organization it might take a little while. I’m hoping we can have things updated by the end of the week. Thank you for your patience.

ICH in the U of I Homecoming Parade

The Iowa homecoming parade is fast approaching, and as always, we will have an ICH entry. The date is Friday Oct. 9th. Line up is between 3:30-5pm. Pizza will be served around 5:00. Parade starts at 5:45. Kids can roller blade or walk. If roller blading, helmets MUST be worn. Parents are needed to walk as well. We will bring hockey jerseys for players to wear. ICH will not be providing candy, but you are welcome to bring candy to hand out to the crowd. Please email tina.riggan@iowacityhockey.org if your family will be attending. 1 volunteer credit will be awarded if player and family members are present.

Youth Hockey Registration – Next Week

Attention hockey families, it’s time to start gearing up for our 2009-2010 Hockey season!

Please mark your calendars and plan to attend registration on either Monday, August 31st OR Thursday, September 3rd between 6:00- 8:00 p.m. at Coral Ridge Ice Arena.

There will be an informational parent meeting at 7:00 p.m. both nights. The parent meeting will include a discussion on program changes, sponsorship, practice schedule, and an opportunity to meet the coaches. ICH board members will also be available to assist you with equipment needs.

Also, don’t forget to register with USA Hockey. You can do this by visiting www.usahockey.com. Bring the registration sheet with you on August 31 or September 3.

If you have any urgent questions, you can call 888-693-7120 and a volunteer will return your call as soon as possible, or we can answer all your questions at the registration nights.

Coralville 4th of July Parade

We are again participating in the Coralville 4th of July parade this Saturday at 10:00 a.m.

We are #98 in the parade, and will line up in the Geico parking lot. Parade rules indicate that we need to be in place by 9:00.

We’ll bring jerseys for the kids to wear. If they rollerblade, they need to wear helmets. We’ll also have Gatorade available.

We’ll be handing out hockey stress pucks and business cards, and would like to have 5-6 adults walking with the kids. We also need 2 adults to carry the banner.

Summer Hockey Skills Sessions

The Coral Ridge Ice Arena will be adding Youth Hockey time starting Monday, July 6th. This will run weekly for 6 weeks from 6:45 – 8:45 p.m. Skill sessions are open to all current and anticipated ICH players.
The plan is to split the ice (with barriers) and have skating/skills done on one half and the stick and puck on the other half. Depending on the number of kids, they would rotate in groups if they want to do the skills. The cost is $7.50 per player each week. Parents wishing to help facilitate these sessions please contact lisa.mascardo@iowacityhockey.org .

New Volunteering Requirement

In order to promote support and participation in our organization, ICH is establishing a Volunteer Requirement effective for the 2009-2010 season. Each family will need to earn 5 volunteer points between now and March. A full list of opportunities for points will be published in the near future, but examples include helping (walking) with the organization in the 4th of July or Iowa Homecoming parades, running the clock or announcing during home games or working a specific shift during the December tournament. In addition, families who personally do the legwork to bring in a sponsorship of $25 or more will earn one point per sponsor. In the event that a family does not have the time to dedicate to volunteering, volunteer points may be purchased for $25 each.

Fundraising Help Needed

Let’s get Iowa City/Coralville excited about the great sport of Hockey! ICH needs your help getting community sponsorships for our organization. Get the family together and think about any local businesses that you know personally. It could be your neighbor that owns the bike shop or your favorite pizza place.
We need each family to submit at least 3 personally known businesses to contact.
There are two options for contact:
1. You may contact the business directly with marketing packets from the fundraising committee. For every business you approach and collect a minimum of $25, you will be awarded one volunteer point.

2. The fundraising committee will contact the businesses submitted for you. We will need to know if we may use your name during the contact.
We are tracking business suggestions so as to not have several people contact the same company.
Please send submissions to marla.edwards@iowacityhockey.org by Friday, June 26.

The fundraising committee must raise $11,000 to keep hockey fees similar to last year so it is extremely important to reach as many businesses as possible. Our goal is to raise funds by August so a budget and fees can be finalized for the 2009-10 hockey season. Thank you for your time, we need every family to help in order to make this a success!
