New Volunteering Requirement

In order to promote support and participation in our organization, ICH is establishing a Volunteer Requirement effective for the 2009-2010 season. Each family will need to earn 5 volunteer points between now and March. A full list of opportunities for points will be published in the near future, but examples include helping (walking) with the organization in the 4th of July or Iowa Homecoming parades, running the clock or announcing during home games or working a specific shift during the December tournament. In addition, families who personally do the legwork to bring in a sponsorship of $25 or more will earn one point per sponsor. In the event that a family does not have the time to dedicate to volunteering, volunteer points may be purchased for $25 each.

Fundraising Help Needed

Let’s get Iowa City/Coralville excited about the great sport of Hockey! ICH needs your help getting community sponsorships for our organization. Get the family together and think about any local businesses that you know personally. It could be your neighbor that owns the bike shop or your favorite pizza place.
We need each family to submit at least 3 personally known businesses to contact.
There are two options for contact:
1. You may contact the business directly with marketing packets from the fundraising committee. For every business you approach and collect a minimum of $25, you will be awarded one volunteer point.

2. The fundraising committee will contact the businesses submitted for you.  We will need to know if we may use your name during the contact.
We are tracking business suggestions so as to not have several people contact the same company.
Please send submissions to marla.edwards@iowacityhockey.org by Friday, June 26.

The fundraising committee must raise $11,000 to keep hockey fees similar to last year so it is extremely important to reach as many businesses as possible.  Our goal is to raise funds by August so a budget and fees can be finalized for the 2009-10 hockey season. Thank you for your time, we need every family to help in order to make this a success!

USA Hockey Registration

The USA Hockey registration season has been changed to May 1- April 30. This change will take effect for the 2009-10 season. Please visit usahockey.org if you have questions and to get your player registered for next season. It is not necessary to register in order to participate in the skills sessions this summer, but we encourage everyone to get registered this summer before the new hockey season begins.

ICH Marketing in Area Schools

After speaking with ICCSD Superintendent Lane Plugge last year, we learned that ICH is not able to directly distribute flyers to all students through the schools, however other forms of marketing may be allowed. Each principal decides what information can be distributed through the school. Last year Weber Elementary had a table with ICH brochures at the Back to School Ice Cream Social. There is also a brochure and business card posted on the community bulletin board in the school. Some schools are willing to mention ICH in their newsletter. As a growing organization, it is important to get the word out to as many families as possible. Please talk to your child’s principal and find out what your school is willing to do. You can contact kaylemckay@iowacityhockey.org for marketing materials.

Ovation Photography will be coming to the rink on Monday Dec. 8th to do our hockey pictures. They will be doing individual and travel team pictures as well as a whole group photo. Non-travel players will be included in the whole group photo. I will have a table set up at the rink on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday  night this week with the order forms. Ovation asks that we have them filled out and checks collected ahead of time to make picture night go smoothly.  In order to do a whole group picture, we will need some cooperation from everyone and that includes the mites staying late and the peewee/bantams coming early.

Practice times will remain the same for everyone BUT…..
Mites:  will have your pictures taken AFTER your practice so will need to stay late.
Squirts: will need ot be dressed by 6:30 to do your pictures
Peewees/bantams: will need to be dressed by 7:15 to do the group photo and then individuals to follow.

EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE AT THE RINK AT 7:15 FOR THE WHOLE GROUP PHOTO.
Coaches: You will be in team pictures so dress accordingly.

You will need to have your order forms filled out with payment attached by this Thursday Dec. 4th.  These MUST be filled out and turned in ahead of time. Tina will be at the rink Mon, Wed and Thurs with the forms and collecting money.

Please e-mail Tina if you have any questions or concerns, and please note, these were originally scheduled for Dec. 1st but were changed to the 8th (just to avoid any confusion in case you read in the meeting minutes that they were on the 1st).

Thanks!
